Frontline Plus – Highly Recommended To Kill Fleas And Ticks

I have the cutest Labrador in the world, but the only problem with him is that he seems to attract fleas just as rapidly as North Pole attracts South Pole! Every year I am faced with this monstrous problem of getting rid of fleas and flea eggs and keeping it that way. That is when I learnt about Frontline from a pet owner friend of mine. When I decided to buy Frontline, I started googling to learn more about flea and tick medicines and what would be the best for my dog. I learnt that Merial manufactures Frontline and FrontLine Plus and the difference between these two products is that Frontline contains Fipronil, an ingredient that kills fleas. But Frontline Plus contains an additional ingredient called S-Methoprene apart from Fipronil. This salt helps to kill flea eggs as well. I finally decided to buy Frontline Plus and started my research for the cheapest prices on Frontline available on the web. I bought a 3 pack Frontline Plus Purple for Large Dogs off the web to try the product. I thought that if my dog and I liked the product, I would order the 12 pack Purple for Large Dogs next time which was being offered as free shipping. That way I would save more!

After one application, I could get rid of 98% of fleas and its eggs! It usually takes about 18 hours to kill all fleas. It is effective for a month and may even last upto 3 months in dogs and about 6-7 weeks in cats. Another application of Frontline Plus becomes necessary when you start noticing the reappearance of fleas or ticks. Frontline Plus has worked like a charm for me ever since, and I have been using it for about 3 years now.

Recently I noticed that the online pharmacy I usually buy from has started selling generic Fipronil which is an essential ingredient in Frontline Plus for way less than brand Frontline Plus. I am considering buying the generic version of Frontline and from what I have researched so far, generic and brand Frontline are exactly the same except for the fact that brand Frontline is manufactured by Merial and generic might be manufactured by various other manufacturers. A word of caution though. When buying generic Fipronil, make sure that it is manufactured in FDA approved manufacturing plants. These plants do not necessarily have to be located in US.

Does Frontline Flea Meds Stain Dog Fur?

I used frontline plus on my dog earlier today. It has never left a stain before but today i noticed some weird purple stain a little bit below where I applied it. My dog was rolling around in wet grass... I am worried maybe it is some lawn pesticide, but then again it is right below where I applied the frontline about 6 hours ago. Does anyone know if frontline leaves a stain?

It never has on my dogs. it is possible, though, that your dog did have some kind of chemical residue on the fur that reacted and caused the color change. Or some psycho kid is running around with a purple crayon fetish.

German Wirehaired Pointer Dog Breed Profile

The German Wirehaired Pointer comes from a country that has a long tradition of breeding dogs with purpose and careful attention to maintaining the strong instinctive drives of the dog. In this case, the hunting instincts of the breed were derived from the German Pointer and the Pudel Pointer and the bramble resistant coat was brought in from the Griffon.

The general public has held the mistaken idea that the German Shorthaired Pointer and the German Wirehaired Pointer are the same breed but with a difference in the coat. This is incorrect.. the German Wirehaired Pointer is a separate breed and has different characteristics physically and instinctually. Some people know it by the German name of Drathaar.

The Wirehaired Pointer is a persistent gundog that does not quit and thrives on the hunt, possessing strong "prey drive". This drive has proven useful in the area of Search and Rescue and there are handlers using this breed as a Search dog and finding that it is quite a capable dog for this pursuit, provided he is trained from the beginning to channel his hunting drive to the human scent.

The wiry coat of the Drathaar is dense and double, requiring little in the way of care. An occasional hand stripping and wiping down is all that is needed the majority of time to keep this dog in clean condition. The head sports a beard of about two inches in length. The coat is stiff and affords protection from brambles but should not be long.

The tail is docked to a length of two-fifths so as to protect in from injury while on the hunt. The ears are natural . The head is always either liver or black and the coat color is liver and white, solid liver, or black and white. The black and white coloring is a disqualification in the show ring in the A.K.C. The dog is registerable in both the United Kennel Club and the American Kennel Club in the United States. The German Wirehaired Pointer is medium sized, standing 23-25 inches at the shoulder and slightly longer than it is tall.

The breed is very popular in Europe and has the highest registration of pointing breeds of any gun dog in Germany. It is a hunt, point and retrieve gun dog of strong instincts and persistence, proving invaluable to the upland game hunter.

This is a dog which is gaining in popularity in the United States. He can be a mannerly house dog if trained early but is suspicious of strangers and aloof to all except his family. His favorite occupation is to be out in the field and hunting with his Master. He is a faithful friend and thrives on human companionship but also can be very happy as an outside dog. This is a dog who does well as a kennel dog provided he is given plenty of exercise.

Responsible breeders have been careful to preserve the breed's integrity and this dog remains a true hunting dog with little change over the years in structure or soundness. There have been some problems with hip dysplasia but the breed in general is long-lived and healthy.

My dog (Black Labrador) loves to rip things up, how can i make him stop destroying my house?

Please help. I put him out the back for nighttime. and i come back out in the morning and my shoes and laundry are all ripped up.

you need to show him who's boss
every time he rips something, scold him in a deep, low voice and say " ____(name)___, NO!"
You can also spray him with water through a spray bottle
since labs tend to be extremely rambunctious, you can also sign him up for obedience classes
I know that petco has an eight week course for only $100. (that's very cheap as far as obedience classes go)
I found that the most effective way to calm down a lab is to make sure that he gets a ton of exercise daily. At least three walks should do the trick.

How Kong Toys Have Established a Strong Brand of Dog Toys

Kong toys are a brand of dog toys that have been around since 1976. They are a bit like the Hoover vacuum cleaner of the dog product world. Although Hoover is a brand of vacuum cleaner people often refer to the vacuum cleaner itself as a Hoover. Kong toys have established themselves in the dog toys world and many dog owners I have come across in person and online referrer to their dogs toys as Kong Toys. The purpose of my article is not to add more superbalitives to Hoover or Kong Toys but it is to offer a reasoning why brands can establish themselves so firmly within a genre.

The most common way to have a brand name associated strongly with a genre of merchandise is to take a particular product to a new level, or to be a revolutionary in that industry. Products can seem to be selling well and lots of manufacturers are all selling the same thing but what if one manufacturer comes up with a unique idea and turns that industry on its head? In 1976 that is exactly what Kong did to the dog toys industry and thus embedding their brand name in the brain of every dog owner in the world.

This type of imaginative thinking sets a buzz going around an industry and general people on the street start to talk about your product and before long everyone is looking out for your brand name when they are looking for the item. The fact that many manufacturers may copy the idea later does not dampen the effect of the original brand name being the name that was spread about when the buzz first started.

The idea that Kong Toys had in 1976 was for a dog toy that incorporated a rubber chew and treat all in one. The dog toy was made out of rubber and was hollow which enabled a soft treat paste to be squeezed into the middle. Dogs could then chew on the rubber toy and the treat would be slowly released into the dog’s mouth over time.

This type of dog toy was revolutionary at the time and dogs would go crazy for the chewy toy with a surprise treat inside. Soon dog owners everywhere were talking about kong toys and it was that customer buzz that built the foundations of their brand. This goes to show that word of mouth probably is the best form of marketing.

Now for a brand such as Kong Toys or Hoover to be successful there needs to be some sustenance after the initial buzz. Kong toys made their dog toys out of the finest rubber and trial tested many different types and shapes before they finally opted for the chosen one. They also consulted experts in the pet industry such as vets and leading pet authors and document writers. This type of research works on two counts as firstly it makes sure that your product has no flaws and secondly you can add the seal of approval from these specialists to your marketing campaign.

Kong toys is still going strong and has now branched out into a wide range of different dog toys which shows that a brand built on solid foundations will last the test of time.

Pet Health Questions - 15 Things Around Your House That Can Kill Your Pet

Many common household items can pose a threat to your pets. Even some items specifically meant for pets could cause health problems. To protect your pet, simply use common sense and take the same precautions you would with a child.

1. Rodent poisons and insecticides are the most common sources of pet poisoning.

2. Antifreeze that contains ethylene glycol has a sweet taste that attracts animals but is deadly if consumed in even small quantities; one teaspoon can kill a seven-pound cat. The HSUS recommends pet owners use a safe antifreeze in their vehicles. Look for antifreeze that contains propylene glycol, which is safe for animals if ingested in small amounts. Ethylene glycol can also be found in common household products like snow globes, so be sure to keep these things out the reach of animals.

3. Cocoa mulch contains ingredients that can be deadly to pets if ingested. The mulch, sold in garden supply stores, has a chocolate scent that is appetizing to some animals.

4. Chemicals used on lawns and gardens, such as fertilizer and plant food, can be easily accessible and fatal to a pet allowed in the yard unsupervised.

5. Cedar and other soft wood shavings, including pine, emit fumes that may be dangerous to small mammals like hamsters and gerbils.

6. Chocolate is poisonous to dogs, cats, and ferrets.

7. De-icing salts used to melt snow and ice are paw irritants that can be poisonous if licked off. Paws should be washed and dried as soon as the animal comes in from the snow. Other options include doggie boots with Velcro straps to protect Fido's feet, and making cats indoor pets.

8. Insect control products, such as the insecticides used in many over-the-counter flea and tick remedies, may be toxic to companion animals. Prescription flea and tick control products are much safer and more effective. Pet owners should never use any product without first consulting a veterinarian.

9. Fumes from nonstick cooking surfaces and self-cleaning ovens can be deadly to birds. Always be cautious when using any pump or aerosol spray around birds.

10. Human medications such as pain killers (including aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen), cold medicines, anti-cancer drugs, anti-depressants, vitamins, and diet pills can all be toxic to animals. Keep medication containers and tubes of ointments and creams away from pets who could chew through them, and be vigilant about finding and disposing of any dropped pills.

11. Leftovers such as chicken bones easily shatter and can choke a cat or dog. Other human foods to keep away from pets include onions and onion powder; alcoholic beverages; yeast dough; coffee grounds and beans; salt; macadamia nuts; tomato, potato, and rhubarb leaves and stems; avocados (toxic to birds, mice, rabbits, horses, cattle, and dairy goats); and anything with mold growing on it.

12. Poisonous household plants include azalea, geraniums, dieffenbachia (dumb cane), lilies, mistletoe, and philodendron, among others.

13. Rawhide doggie chews may be contaminated with Salmonella, which can infect pets and humans who come in contact with the chews. These kinds of chews should be offered to a pet only with supervision, as they can pose a choking hazard as well.

14. String, yarn, rubber bands, and even dental floss are easy to swallow and can cause intestinal blockages or strangulation.

15. Toys with removable parts like squeaky toys or stuffed animals with plastic eyes can pose a choking hazard to animals. Take the same precautions with pets as you would with a small child.

My lab ran under a gate and banged his back end Since then he's been limping on his back leg. Any ideas?

We took him to the vet because he was struggling to climb stairs and jump into the boot of the car. He occasionally limps on one back leg but he is still bouncy as a normal 2 yr old lab should be. The vet prescribed him anti-inflammatories which don't seem to be working - it's been 10 days now. The vet mentioned something about damage to his hips and having to do an x-ray if the tablets didn't work. It looks like we'll be taking him back so i've researched hip problems like hip dysplasia and I'm worried about the cost. We've got pet insurance with Tesco but most insurers don't cover hip dysplasia, although could this be classed as an accident as he has only had these symptoms since banging his back end? He also seems to be losing weight, which is unusual because he hasn't been exercising as normal. I'd really appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions or advice.

My friends Dally did this and it suffered for a long time. I don't think that a dog with sound hips will displace them due to an accident and I don't know anything about the insurance with Tesco.

The reason for my reply is that I have recently researched Chiropractic treatment for dogs. Chiropractors can find problems without expensive xrays and xrays involve an anaesthetic which can be traumatic.

A Chiropractor will gently examine your dog and will be able to find the seat of the problem. Then they are able to manipulate and remedy this. It is painless and your dog may feel tired afterwards. I have a ten year old GSD who has had this treatment and it works wonders. It cost about £25 per session and one session could resolve the problem.
Edit. Be aware that vets often suggest unnecessary treatment, either because they don't know or because they want to add to their income.
