We have a 11 month old Cocatiel. and he is constantly screaming If he hasn't got our attention 100% of the time.
He has clean food, and water, Toys in his cage, and is
5 feet away from us in the same room. He has a $500.00
flight cage, so he has plenty of room.
Also he will only eat certain seeds in his food then screams
about that too.
He is driving me Nuts.

First of all, he does not need a cage-mate. This will just make the bird harder to train since what he wants is attention, and he can get all the attention he wants from the mate. Cage-mates are never a good idea unless you plan on breeding the birds. Do NOT put a sheet over his cage! This is punishing the bird, and birds don't understand punishment. To get my cockatoo to stop screaming, I would look away when she would scream. If she kept screaming, I would turn off the lights, TV or anything that made noise, and leave the room until she stopped. Also, I would give her no eye contact while screaming. Once she was quiet for 10 minutes, I would come back in the room to play with her. It took about 3 days until she understood that she got no attention for screaming. After a week, instead of screaming for attention, she would ring a bell and say "Kai out?". It may take a few days to train your bird, but this way the bird wont end up getting angry with you for punishing him and he'll get trained just as easily. English Bulldogs -- Choosing the Breed of Dog That's Right for You
When choosing a dog, it's important to choose the breed that's right for you. In order to do that, you need to know the characteristics and temperament of the breed you're thinking about adopting or purchasing before you do so. The English Bulldog is just one breed among many from which to choose.
History/Background: The English Bulldog descended from the ancient Asiatic mastiff and was brought to Europe by nomads. It was bred for bull baiting in the early 13th century. The name "bulldog" (medieval in origin) refers to the robust look of a little bull and also the power with which this dog attacked bulls in arena combat before that practice was outlawed in the 19th century. The last of the working bulldogs in England were crossed with Pug dogs to create the English Bulldog. This breed was first registered by the American Kennel Club in 1935.
Physical Characteristics: The English Bulldog has a short but wide, compact and muscular body with stocky legs and a short tail. The head is broad, with dense skin folds on the skull and forehead, and the cheeks extend to the sides of the eyes. The muzzle is short and sometimes dark, with a broad black nose and large nostrils. The upper lip is pendant and the lower jaw undershot. The eyes are very round, far apart and dark. The small, thin ears are folded back in the form of a rose. The coat is short and smooth, and the color can be red, fawn, brindle, pale yellow, washed-out red, white or any combination of these colors. The English Bulldog's height is about 12 to 16 inches, and weight is 49 to 55 pounds.
Personality/Temperament: The English Bulldog, in contrast to its aggressive and fighting ancestors, is gentle and very affectionate. It typically does not beg for attention but seeks for it, and lots of human attention is required for its happiness. It is content to lie peacefully at its owner's feet or just to be in the same room with its owner. It is sensitive to its owner's moods. This breed makes a good companion and is good with children and the elderly and also with family pets.
Although known for its courage and excellent guarding abilities, an English Bulldog does not necessarily make a good watch dog. It usually only barks when there is really a reason or sometimes if furniture has been moved or there is something new in the house. This breed of dog can be bullheaded and determined and does not give up easily. It can be dominating and needs an owner who displays strong leadership.
A young English Bulldog will be full of energy but will slow down as it gets older. Although it appears lazy, this is not really the case. It doesn't jump at every command but evaluates the command against its own priority setting to decide whether to obey the command and with what urgency. This breed snores very loudly and tends to slobber and drool. It rarely whines or complains.
Possible Health Conditions: Some of the health conditions that plague this breed of dog include breathing problems, poor eyesight, susceptibility to heat stroke in warm weather or hot rooms or cars, sensitivity to cold, skin infections and hip and knee problems. This breed also has an active digestive system. Puppies are often delivered by cesarean section because of the broad head. The life expectancy for this breed averages 8 years.
Exercise/Grooming: English Bulldogs need daily short walks but are not tolerant of excessive exercise. Some adult bulldogs would rather not exercise while others are full of energy. Grooming is fairly easy and consists of combing or brushing with a firm bristle brush and bathing only when necessary. The face should be wiped with a damp cloth every day to clean inside the wrinkles. This breed is an average shedder.
Living Conditions: This breed of dog is good for apartment life, is inactive indoors and does okay without a yard. It chills easily in cold weather and has trouble cooling off in very hot weather. It should be kept indoors.
Summary: The English Bulldog needs lots of human attention and strong human leadership, is very good with children and the elderly, makes a good companion and is relatively easy to groom but doesn't typically have a lot of energy and has a shorter life expectancy than most breeds. If you are looking for these characteristics and traits in a dog and are able to fulfill its needs, then perhaps an English Bulldog is the right breed for you.

Is it a lot of hard work by breedeing your dog?
I have a 18month old english sheepdog and i am thinking of breeding her. Is there a lot of work and does it matter if your work full-time?
Successful breeding takes a lot of time and learning but don't look for any advice on here as you won't get it. All you will get is abuse for even thinking about breeding from people that were born with all the knowledge that they say they have, at least that's what they think.
Firstly you should take your b*tch to the vet and get her checked over to make sure that she is fit enough. Ask your vet for advice and approach an OES club and get advice from them. Read as much as you can about the breed and the actual process of breeding. Everyone has got to start somewhere so do your homework first so that you won't get caught out with any nasty surprises. I do agree though that working full time is not a good idea as the b*tch and pups will need to be watched over virtually constantly. Breeding is a big commitment and also brings you closer to your dog. Enjoy and go into it with your eyes open.

Buying bird from mega pet shop?
I'm thinking of buying a bird, a plum head parakeet, very tame and very healthy from a "mega" pet shop chain.
The price is a bit high but I can't find anyone within 500 miles of me that breeds these lovely birds.
Why are so many in the bird world disliking of buying birds from the mega shops? when some small breeders are dirty and nasty as well as some small shops?
And where can I find a good deal on wrought iron cages?
The bird shows and bird fairs I've been to are really nasty. I appreciate your advice though.
Many Mega shops do not provide the proper stimulation that these birds need. They don't work with them the way breeders do. Therefore most times the extra money spent on birds from the mega chains would be better spent shipping a bird to you from a breeder. Shipping a bird costs approximately 90 dollars through Delta and there is usually a carrier fee that the breeder will charge. I am sure you will get a healthier, better trained and happier bird this way and in the long run it might even be cheaper. Good breeders are out there and make sure to get references before you buy. I have a parakeet and want to get another one but i think it would be fun to make the bird cage, considering i don't have $100+ to buy one. So the dimensions i have are 5 ft. height by 2 feet depth by 2 feet width. but the stand is 2 and a half feet height. it is all square and i want the top to be able to come off. and the bottom of the cage to slide out for easy clean up. any ideas? i need the material, average prices, and average times + any thoughts.
Good idea on making the bird cage. It's very economical and not a bad idea at all.
There are various ways to build an aviary (a large bird cage like the one you described is considered an aviary). The easiest way I know of is to build a 'panel' aviary.
Basically, you take untreated wood (must be untreated- anything else could be toxic to the birds) and create six panels (two for top and bottom, four for sides), staple wire mesh to it, and then connect them together.
Building a bottom tray is a bit harder and I'm not sure how exactly to go about doing one. If I were you, I would just stick newspaper on the bottom of the cage and just replace the paper a few times a week.
To make the top come off, just use a hinge.
Average time depends on how good you are at building, but probably no more than three hours considering the size of your aviary. Material would be untreated wood (24 pieces, 6 panels x 4 wood pieces for each) and some heavy gauge wire mesh. Do not use galvanized wire, as it is coated with zinc which is toxic to birds (unless you plan on taking a wire brush and scraping the zinc coating off with vinegar, and then repeating this process a couple of times a year). And a stapler used for building things. Cost depends on what sort of wire mesh you will use, so I can't give an estimate on it. Generally stainless steel is the best type and the highest quality to use, but it's also the most expensive.

You will notice it is made for finches- that's because most parrot owners tend to just buy a large cage rather than build their own (as parrots enjoy chewing and require good quality, nontoxic wire, which is expensive) and the fact that while parrot owners can freely let their bird out, finch owners cannot.
It doesn't matter much what species the aviary was intended for- the instructions are the same, just use a better quality wire because the gauge used for finches can be torn up by parrots in a heartbeat.
