Rare Breeds of Dogs

When you look at a list of the number of dog breeds that exist you will be astonished at the numerous types of dogs there are in the world. There are also rare breeds of dogs, which means that there are not very many of these dogs. Some of these rare breeds are:

- Aidi. This is a Moroccan dog breed that is used to guard flocks of sheep and goats. This dog weighs about 50 pounds and stands just under two feet tall at the shoulders. Its body is lean and muscular covered by a thick coat that allows it to withstand cold temperatures. The head of this dog looks somewhat like that of a bear but it is in proportion to the rest of the body. It has amazing tracking and scenting abilities and because it is very protective, it makes a great guard dog.

- Barbet. This is a medium sized French water dog. This is a hypoallergenic  dog that does not shed dander like other breeds. The dogs can be black, grey, fawn , brown, white or mixed colors. Grey and white are rare colors in this breed and those with mixed colors cannot be registered because this is considered a fault. They are excellent companions because of their friendly temperament and they are very easy to train.

- Canadian Eskimo Dog. This is a breed of Arctic dog from the Canadian North. This dog is very powerful and is imposing to look at. The ears are erect and triangular and it has a small feathery tail. Females of the species have a finer coat than the males. The coat is very thick and dense and is thicker around the neck area, looking somewhat like a mane. These dogs are built for hauling large loads and although they are not fast, they do travel at a steady pace.

- Dingo. Although these are seen as wild dogs of Australia, they are bred as domestic pets. They do not have an odor and can be trained quite easily. They are available only in Australia and it is illegal to take them out of the country.

- Dutch Shepherd. This is a jack-of-all-trades dog that has powerful muscles in spite of its medium size.  There are three varieties of this breed ?long-haired, short-haired and rough-haired, with the rough-haired dogs being the rarest of the breed. All the varieties have a woolly undercoat  in colors in the range of gold and silver although there are blue-grays and salt and pepper colors.

- Jagdterrier.  This is a working terrier from Germany used for hunting. These dogs are black with tan or reddish color markings on the muzzle. The coat can be wiry or smooth. Females usually weigh between 16 and 18 pounds and males of the species are heavier weighing between 19 and 22 pounds.  Although they do make good pets, they are hunting dogs that seek out prey.

- Lowchen. This is one of the rarest dog breeds in the world.  The head is short and wide with lively eyes. It is a very friendly dog that is often seen in dog shows. Its active and playful, which makes it a good dog for families with children.

What should I do with a stray dog (black lab; large puppy)?

I pet this dog once yesterday. He has not left my house since.
I can not keep a dog. What should I do?

*First I would make an effort to find the owner by posting signs or putting an ad online or in your local paper for a lost pet. If the owner doesn't turn up I would definitely try to locate a lab rescue or a no kill shelter. I know that a lot of humane societies are no kill...but I'd ask when you call.

The Dog That Was!

I knew I loved dogs but I had no idea how so attached I could get to them until I finally got my own dog Whiskey when I was 10 years old. Whiskey was only 2 months old when my father brought him home. He was dirty and hungry and very cute. I washed him and gave him food but he would not eat for three days. He was scared. He was in a strange place. I sat there with him all the while I only left him when I was going to bed. My mother who is a retired vet now wouldn’t let me sleep with him, she said he had flees and he had to be vaccinated bla bla bla, whatever she said did not make sense to me at the time, I wanted whiskey in my bed, I wanted to fill the gap of his mother. On the third day I just couldn’t leave him alone, he looked terrified that I was leaving and we had started to bond really well, we were now playmates so I sneaked him into my room and I did that every other night until I was caught of course. As days and years went by whiskey grew up to be a big black furry dog. He looked like a small lion especially when he was angry and his fur all stood up.He was dearly loved by every single member in the family. He knew each of us by name. He was very intelligent. He knew when I was happy and when I was upset. He also knew when I was scared. He knew the things that are dear to me and protected them such as the car and even my cat. Whiskey hated the cat with a passion but I saw the epitome of whiskeys’ loyalty when this one time stray dogs were after my cat. I would not believe it but whiskey actually defended the cat and protected it from the other dogs. Where on earth can you find such loyalty?One morning we woke up at 6am pip and porky( the two other dogs that I own) were sick and whiskey was no where to be seen. This was unusual. Whiskey was a very disciplined Dog. Every morning he would come greet us as soon as the door was opened and then take himself to his kennel and wait to be chained. He never left the compound at any one time on his own. We were puzzled. At around 10am the gate bell rang. It was an old man who had come to tell us whiskey was by the road side and could not move. He had seen the whole thing and he narrated to us what had happened.In the night while we were asleep, some thieves paid us a little visit. They had always tried to get in but whiskey and his crew just wouldn’t let them. Many times they brought the dogs poisoned snacks, the other dogs would eat but whiskey was too proud to eat anything off the ground, so when the other dogs were down he would single leggedly deal with them. So this time the thieves had a new solution to this ferocious obstacle. They came with both poison and a machete. I must say, it was a good plan. They poisoned the other two dogs Pip and Porky, and of course knowing that whiskey would not eat their stuff, the machete was for him and indeed they sliced his neck wide open. That did not stop him. With his wound he chased those thieves a mile away from home then he dropped. The thieves did not get in.We rushed to whiskey to find him lying there in a pool of blood and I guess he was either proud with himself or he was happy to see us because he didn’t look like he was in pain at all. He had been sliced down the neck to the chest. It was a very big cut and he had lost a lot of blood. He had to be stitched. He was down for 2 months. Being a thirteen year old dog at the time, it weakened him so much. He died a year later in September 2006. The night before he died I lay next to him the whole night. It was a very sad moment for both of us. Whiskey hated it when he was helpless. He would not let the other dogs see him in such a state. Sometimes I thought he thought he was human. He would fit in so well. I miss him so much. The memory of him will forever be in my heart. He is irreplaceable. I still talk about him a lot. My bestest best friend.

When I pick a name, I always go by what their personalities are like or what they physically look like. Basically look at what the name means and then go from there.

My two Pomeranians names are:
Teddy Bear Kare Bronson (T-Bear for short) - which means Strong, Enormous Teddy Bear. Because he's a huge 18 lb. pom and he can tear up anything that's put in front of him. But he also looks and acts like a little teddy bear. He's so cute and fluffy.

And my female is...
Missy Amana Armelle Annabelle - which means Faithful Little Princess with Grace and Beauty and that describes her to a tee. She's very faithful with my mom and I ONLY. She doesn't like any other human contact. She's only about 5 lbs. and she loves to get pampered like a princess. She thinks she can jump, go, or do anything she wants. We got the name Missy because it rhymes with Prissy and she is really prissy! Especially how she walks and carries herself. She's real dainty.

Information And Facts On The Great Chow Chow Dog Breed

The Chow Chow is a beautiful protective dog who has a bit of a mind of her own. She can stand very cold weather because of her double coat. She can live in an apartment as long as she gets frequent walks but might prefer a fenced enclosure for exercise. She can tend to be a one person dog and she needs a firm hand to be her master.

Good With Children?

She is generally good with children in the family as long as she has been socialized. As a reminder, never leave a young child unsupervised with a puppy or dog.

Good With Other Pets?

She may do ok with other pets as long as she is socialized with them at an early age.

Training ability

Very high in intelligence and very trainable but may lack in obedience. She is very strong willed.

Approximate Adult Size

The approximate adult size (two years old or older) of the Chow Chow is 18 to 22 inches to the withers (highest point of the shoulder) and 45 to 70 pounds.

Special Health Considerations

Most dog breeds have certain inherited health problems associated with that specific breed and the Chow Chow is no exception. Look for Entropion, (hereditary disorder where eyelid, usually lower one, rolls inward and irritates the cornea and can cause visual problems. Surgery can correct this condition but may disqualify the dog from shows), canine hip dysplasia (genetic based looseness in the hip joint that can lead to arthritis pain and lameness), ingrown eye lashes and hot skin spots. This disease list is an informative guideline only. Other diseases may also be significant threats, please contact your veterinarian for a complete list.

She should visit the veterinarian several times in the first year for shots, boosters and check up. Then, as an adult, she should visit the veterinarian yearly for shots and check up. As she gets older, six years and on, she should visit the veterinarian twice a year for check ups and shots. Remember; avoid feeding your dog sweets.

Grooming

The Chow Chow comes in two kinds of coats, rough and smooth, both coats are double coated. She should be brushed regularly. She is a seasonally heavy shedder so brushing will help control excess hair, help her maintain a clean and healthy coat and help you keep a closer eye on her health and strengthen your emotional bond with her.

Her teeth should be brushed at least twice a week with toothpaste and toothbrush designed for dogs. Brushing removes the accumulation of plaque and tartar which can cause cavities (rarely) and periodontal disease. Dog periodontal disease can lead to pain, loss of teeth, bad breath and other serious disease.

Her toenails may need to be examined for growth and clipped regularly. The toenails of the rear feet grow slower than the toenails of the front feet. Generally a guillotine type trimmer is the best for this chore and competent instructions to accomplish this can be found on the net.

Life Span

The Chow Chow can live between 12 and 15 years with proper nutrition, medical care and excellent living conditions.

History

The Chow Chow is a northern Chinese ancient breed. She was an all purpose dog used for hunting, pulling, herding and protection. Some were even used for foog and pelts. In fact, Chow Chow is Cantonese for food. They were first registered by the American Kennel Association in 1903.

I started a story but cant finish it can you help me please?

This is all I got can you help me get some more ideas in their so I can get a page (double-spaced)? thank you.... here it is:

You have 133 words--which is about a 1/3 of the page; (375 words would fill up a single page)--you could expand this really easily in no time at all. Add in some descriptions--what does Alaska look like in the winter, how is the weather, what do the dogs look like, etc.

Show your audience, don't tell them. Use vivid descriptions and open your story with a hook--a line that will draw your audience in and want to read/hear more. Make the reader feel like they are there in the frozen noth in the middle of winter.

Also, explain things more--why was Bree your most prized dog, show her in detail, describe her. Describe her personality--saying that she is like Jenna and Nana isn't very helpful if your audience isn't familiar with the movies that those dogs are from. Also if you describe her in detail, you'll be adding more words, which means you'll be closer to your one page goal.

In addition to this, you should consider editing out repeat words--for example you use the name Bree three times in a row in three sentances. "My most prized possession was my dog, *Bree*. *Bree* was sweet not to mention innocent, not exactly a sled dog. *Bree* was like..." My suggestion is that you should fix this by replacing the second 'Bree' with "she".

Also, you should vary sentance lenght. It's a good practice to get into. The length of the average sentace is about 22 words. Throughout a story, even a short one, you should try to vary the lenght as to not tire the reader. In addition to this, your last sentance--"Natalie and my dogs, *were* named from lead dog to wheel dogs, *are* lead: Max, 1st team dog: Jake, 2nd: Bear, 3rd:, 4th: Bon, 5th: Yukon, 6th: Bailey, & the last two dogs are wheel dogs are Murphy and Scarlett-Satin" is a bit long. You could break this one up a bit. Furthermore, you don't have the verb tense agreeing--you have "were" and "are". The "are" should be changed to "were" to agree with the tense of the rest of the story. Furthermore, you should write out "and" in the sentance instead of using the "&" symbol.

BTW: You should be doing your own homework, not asking others to write it for you--it's not fair to your classmates who are working hard on their own stories.
