T-shirts – the Unique Fashion Statement

Almost everyone loves the look and feel of a T-Shirts whether they use them more as an undergarment like in past or as a way to express their thoughts on politics, global warming, or just absolutely love the saying or photo.

Can a dog be allergic to a cat?

I was given a chihuahua about a year ago. He was very healthy-looking when I got him. Now, however, he has a severe skin condition, and frequent hot-spots. His fur falls off in clumps of nasty yellow crust. He has no fleas. It helps when he wears a shirt covering him from neck to tail. The house he came from did not have a cat. He is an inside dog and only goes out for a few minutes at a time.

Dogs (like people) can be allergic to anything.
However, I would suspect a food allergy, rather than a cat allergy.
Food allergies are fairly common in dogs.

I am fostering a chihuahua who has food allergies right now. I have put her on a lamb-based dog food, which does not contain common allergens such as corn:

I gave her a teaspoon of cod liver oil every day for the first two weeks, which has vitamin A to support skin and immune system health. She was frantic for the oil the first two weeks, which I took as an indication that she had a deficiency. Now she is not interested in the oil, so I have discontinued it.

I still give her a fish body oil capsule (for the omega 3s) every day, and she loves that. Her coat was very dry when I got her, it is getting shinier every day.

I treated the open sore she had with tea tree oil, since it is soothing, antibacterial, antifungal, and tastes REALLY REALLY bad, so she would not chew at the sore. )

I try to be creative with the snacks I give her - no store bought ones. I baked some yam strips last week, and she loved those.

Three weeks in, she is doing very well. Her sore has healed, and she still scratches a little (mostly first thing in the morning) but no new sores have come up, and her coat is looking much better.

And I didnt have to use cortisone, which has side effects )

(I would suggest that you have your vet look at him to eliminate other possible problems like mange. If he says its allergies, then my approach should help.)

Cats Dogs and Human Food - How Can Our Food Harm Our Pets?

We're all guilty of it - giving in to those big begging eyes pleading at us for a scrap from the table during dinner. Fido knows just how to get you to concede, and most of us justify that a little won't hurt, or we don't even think of the potential danger at all. But the truth is that human food can be harmful to your pet, and in some cases, can be fatal. It's important to know how certain foods can be unsafe so that you can avoid them for the sake of your animal.

Here is how a few of some of the most common "human foods" become harmful for pets:

Chocolate and Other Human Foods Containing Caffeine

Caffeine is one of the greatest culprits because it contains an alkaloid called theobromine. Theobromine acts as a cardiac stimulant and a diuretic, which in turn can cause a heart attack or other heart and nervous system problems in animals.

Onions and Garlic

Onions and garlic are potentially harmful due to the fact that both contain thiosulphate, which can damage red blood cells and cause anemia in cats and dogs. Of the two, onions are the most toxic, as consumption of simply one serving by your pet could result in anemia.

Milk

Milk can harm your pet due to the fact that many dogs and cats tend to be lactose intolerant. The consumption of milk and milk products by a lactose intolerant pet creates a breeding ground for bacteria, causing vomiting and diarrhea.

Bones

Bones, although commonly known as a great treat for your dog, are potentially very dangerous for pets. Once eaten, bones can splinter and get stuck in the intestines, causing damage or fatality. In most splinter cases, the bones must be removed surgically.

Other Common Harmful Foods

Other human foods to avoid when feeding your pet are: macadamia nuts, potato peelings and green-looking potatoes, rhubarb leaves, moldy/spoiled foods, alcohol, yeast dough, tomato leaves and stems, broccoli, and raisins or grapes.

Some human foods potentially cause only mild digestive upsets, while others can be fatal. Regardless of the level of danger, the best choice for your pet is to keep him from any potentially harmful foods in order to ensure his health and safety.

So, the next time your pet looks up at you with those pleading eyes, show him you care by doing what is truly best for him and feeding him only products meant for pet consumption. In the end, both you and your pet will be glad that you did.

How can we prepare for a visiting cat & dog?

Two friends are visiting for two days and they're bringing their cat & dog. We're not worried about the pup, but we have two older cats and we're not sure how they'll react to having another puss around their turf. How can we keep everyone happy with minimal hissing or spraying?
well, our cats are older, 10 yrs. The visiting cat is about 2ish. There also isn't much extra room to separate them. there are two rooms with doors we can close - our bedroom & the bathroom. the bathroom has the litter box. I'm kinda getting worried.

Cat Furniture - A Must Have For Making Your New Kitty Feel At Home

Your family decided that it's time to get a pet and now a furry little kitty is sitting all happy in your home. In order to make him feel completely welcomed, you should really have some nice cat furniture in place for him.

If you have never had a cat as a pet before, then it's probably a good idea to get him a couple different cat furniture selections. The first one being a lovely kitty condo, which gives your kitty a wonderful place to sleep because of its fantastic design. Normally, one has a cylindrical shape and stands anywhere between two to three feet off the ground. It will have enclosed sleeping areas where your kitty can jump into and curl up for a nice nap or a long night's rest. Another cat furniture option that is a must have are cat trees. This cat furnishing provides your kitty with a fantastic place to get rid of its energy instead of on your furniture. It will feature juxtaposing limbs and will be three to four feet in height, perfect for letting him jump and play all that he wants. Some other cat furniture that you could get for your kitty includes kitty gyms, scratching posts, window and wall perches, and even steps to help him jump up on things, but that probably won't be necessary until it gets really old. Like a litter box and kitty litter for one, a collar is also a must have and some other things you'll need to get is food, a brush, some toys, treats to help train it, and a pet carrier to take it to those important vet visits.

To easily purchase everything that you will need for your new cat, forget about going to the local pet store to do it. Instead, the thing to do is to go online and do some shopping. Can Cats Have Adverse Reactions To Frontline Plus?

Recently I used Frontline Plus for Fleas, Ticks, and Chewing Lice. Tigger, my seven year old, became very lethargic, avoided noise and light, and refused to eat for days. He was once too weak to get into the litterbox, wetting the bathroom rug. He's NEVER done that before. He didn't seem to really know where he was. He is better today. yes the can and very often do. please ask your vet to a prescritption for Revolution becuase it is less dangerous. frontline and advantage both have a pretty high incidence of issues. also i dont know what you feed but that could be the problem cats need wet food never dry, grain free food (they are carnivores and cannot metabolize grains for energy), and their food needs to be based on human grade meat not 4D meat which is what all of the catfood you can buy at the grocery store contains. i think that Wellness or Instinct or Merreck for canned food is great and Aunt Jeni's home made ofr life for raw is wonderful (raw is better than canned but your kitty will be fine on canned.) the important part is that it is not predominantly fish, contains no grain, and does not contain by-products. also your cat could have eaten somehting else toxic besides the frontline. household plants and cleaners are really common problems for cats. please bring your cat to the vet even if the symptoms have subsided. he could still be in trouble. good luck all the best
