Almost all the other brands are horrible. Hund-N-Flocken is a good food too, but all the other brands are packed full of byproducts, corn, wheat, soy, and chemicals. Yuck.

Evanger's contains healthy grains like brown rice and wholesome meat.

Avoid Eukanuba, Iams, Science Diet, Ol' Roy, and Purina as if they were poison--they are horrible for your dog!

I don't hate Hund-N-Flocken; I love the ingredient panel and quality of ingredients but haven't tried it on my dog yet. My dog has eaten the Evanger's before and did beautifully on it, which is why I think it's the best.

The Natural Advantage skin care line of products bears the name of Jane Seymour, a 59 year old star of movies and TV shows. Some people will buy the products, simply because they bear her name.

No matter whose name a product bears, it is important to evaluate the ingredients before you buy. The US Food and Drug Administration made that recommendation years ago. It is especially important for anyone that has had an allergic or adverse reaction in the past.

Common causes of allergic reactions include artificial preservatives like parabens and artificial fragrances known as aromatic hydrocarbons. In addition to being common allergens, aromatic hydrocarbons are flammable. It boggles the mind why people ever thought it was a good idea to apply something flammable to their skin.

Once you have identified which ingredients cause the reaction, the FDA recommends that you avoid using any products that contain them. Sometimes it is impossible to determine which ingredient caused the reaction, just because there are so many of them.

Another recommendation made by the FDA is to test any new products on an inconspicuous patch of the skin's surface, before using on the face. If you have not use the Natural Advantage skin care creams before, it is a good idea to do the patch test, even if you have never had an adverse reaction.

Like most anti-aging creams, Jane's line contains a sunscreen ingredient with an SPF rating of 15. But, what does that mean? A lot of people do not understand.

The FDA is working to finish new labeling rules that will require manufacturers to be clearer about what the sunscreens in their products can actually be expected to do. One of the reasons has to do with an increased incidence of malignant melanoma that has been seen among regular sunscreen users.

I am not say that Natural Advantage skin care solutions cause or contribute to malignant melanoma. I am neither for nor against the products. I am simply using them as an example, because they are representative of the vast majority of anti-aging creams, lotions and cleansers.

Almost all of the anti-aging creams on the market contain a sunscreen, even if they are intended for nighttime use. What is the benefit? As far as we know, there is none and they could actually do more harm than good.

The bottom line is that you should not rely on Natural Advantage skin care creams or any other product to protect you from the sun. Labels like "all day moisturizer" indicate that reapplication is unnecessary. But, all sunscreens must be reapplied on a regular basis if they are to remain effective.

This is one of the issues that the FDA will try to address with their new rules. By the time that you read this, they may already be in effect. But, for the summer of 2010, it is still necessary for people to do their own research.

Whether or not you decide to try Natural Advantage skin care products is up to you. Just remember to test patch, if you have not used them before.

(Out of Our Heads) and 2004's Punk Rock has taken a back seat to a more measured and subtle approach, Natural certainly fits in with the group's great tradition of intelligent ranting. Most of Natural suggests the Mekons sitting around the campfire, perhaps after some failed revolutionary action has knocked out the power, singing songs that at once reflect their cynicism and offer some faint hope for a world where either justice or cheap beer is in ready supply. "You don't have to believe in the end," from "Cockermouth," is the benchmark of the album's semi-optimism; "Dark Dark Dark," "Dickie Chalkie and Nobby," and "Give Me Wine or Money" all offer sketches of resistance in a world that isn't much interested in their campaign; and the closer, "Perfect Mirror," calmly contemplates the final defeat. Tips On Buying A Used Cat!

My cat Spike was previously owned, but in good condition. He wasn't shaking or throwing up on the floor or having some kind of a fit. For a cat in an animal shelter he seemed to be in pretty good shape! The animal services people said that he was available for adoption which made me wonder if the other animals in the cages were doomed already.

Adoption is just another word for a cat sale! They didn't want us to think this was a business arrangement, so they dulled the verbiage by telling us we were giving him a new home and a future; even hinting that if we didn't take him, he would be meeting the grim reaper the next day.

First Tip: Know what you're going to be spending and decide if the kitten is worth the money, as well as the cat hair on your new sofa when you get home.

The cat cost me almost $100 before I could even get him into the car, which to my way of thinking, I had just bought a cat. Adoption fees, city license fees and county license fees, worming and a few other medical necessities amounted to $115.00. The coupon they gave me to have him neutered would save me $20.00, but would still cost $30.00.

Any way I looked at this arrangement, we were talking about big money and I hadn't even bought any kitty litter or cat food! I was beginning to wonder if I had been scammed. This kitten certainly didn't look like he was worth a hundred dollars. Also someone obviously of limited intelligence had named this kitten Donnie! I immediately changed his name to Spike, which he seemed to appreciate.

Second Tip: Make sure the cat of your choice is in good mental health. That's right, I said mental health. According to animal experts, cats can stress out and go bonkers just like us humans. I wasn't aware of such a thing when I picked Spike out of the line-up at the shelter, but it could explain why sometimes when he's sleeping he will suddenly sit up and then bolt from his bed like its on fire!

Cat anxiety is evidently a fairly common malady for felines. Spike rarely appears anxious unless one of the raccoons that have invaded the woods in our back yard snarls at him over a bit of his cat food. He almost lost a leg to one of these food bandits a couple of years ago and since then he stays out of their way when they visit his garage at night. Othewise he seems pretty laid back.

Occasionally he'll scratch the side of our antique couch when we least expect it. I think he's just trying to get attention from us, which he does when my wife grabs the broom and swats him out the door.

I asked a veterinarian about this behavior and he said that Spike was probably suffering some kind of emotional stress. He wrote me a prescription for valium. He said if he showed any other emotional distress he would increase the dosage. That's all I need; a stoned cat!

Tip Three: Physical Health: Although it's impossible to tell just how healthy the cat you're interested in buying is, you have to hope that it's good enough to qualify him for health insurance. Spike appeared to be healthy when I bought him so I thought I wouldn't have to spend much money on his up-keep.

Then the raccoons and monstrous veterinarian bills arrived. After one of them chewed on his leg in a dispute over Meow Mix, I discovered that having a little insurance was probably a good thing. I also discovered that pet insurance is a lot like human health insurance in that there is a pre-existing clause. Even though Spike had never had an injury to his leg, the insurance company refused to pay for the medical attention he received, using the old "pre-existing" excuse!

Whether you buy your cat at a pet store or an animal shelter, it's going to cost you money, worry and time. Sometimes I think raising a kid is cheaper and they won't leave hair on your couch!

What tricks do you know of to get a dog to drink water? (The vet has taken him off food for 24 hours.)?

I took my dog to the vet due to 48 hours of diarrhea. The vet has taken him off food for 24 hours. The problem is that I was using food to get him to drink more so he wouldn't dehydrate. I was dropping a half dozen pieces of dry food in his water dish, which always gets him to drain the water dish. Without that trick, I'm worried he'll dehydrate as he hasn't shown much interest in water. He also doesn't seem to care about ice cubes in or out of the water dish. Any other tricks to get a dog to drink more?

You are worring too much. He will drink when he is thursty. However if you just want to ease your mind use 1 beef boulion cube boiled in about 6 cups of water. let it cool and let him drink that. If it is hot where you are and your dog likes ice (like mine do) just make some beef ice cubes with the boulion you made for him to nibble on. but trust me he probibly doesn't want to drink if his bottom is sore from all the diareah.
