Getting A Bed For Your Cat

Your pet needs a place in which they can lay down, sleep, and take a nap. A cat bed will also help keep your cat from taking its naps on your bed or couch. This doesn't mean that you have to spend a fortune or have it monogrammed, but it does mean that you need to look for something comfortable. A good choice is a bed that your cat will be able to snuggle in. You can choose from nesting beds, mats, or perches.

Your choice will depend on your cat's sleeping habits and what will fit best in your home. Also, don't be irritated if your cat doesn't take to its new sleeping domain right away, it might take time or your cat might not adapt to it at all. A good tip is to find a bed that is washable so that any messes are easy to clean. It's also a good idea to put the bed wherever your cat likes to sleep or in a quiet area.

Scratch a Post or Scratch Your Couch, It's Up to You

Cats need to stretch and exercise their arms and legs, just like humans do. Unfortunately they choose to do this by scratching things since no one has invented a gym for cats. In order to avoid having them scratch up all of your furniture, it might be a good idea to invest in a cat scratching post, and the sooner the better. A scratching post will help your cat realize that they have their own piece of furniture to claw up and to leave yours alone.

When buying a scratching post for your cat, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. First, you need to make sure that the scratching post is actually tall enough for your cat to be able to get the full effect. This is so they can completely stretch their body out and still have room to spare. Next make sure that it won't fall over as soon as it has something leaning against it or your cat will be tipping it over all of the time.

If your cat already has a few bad habits such as scratching furniture and such, you might need to train your cat to use the post instead. This might take a little time and patience, but if you make sure your cat is playing with it whenever you are around, they will begin to get the idea, and it also helps if it is in an accessible area to your cat.

Getting Your Cat from One Place to Another

Since you may have realized that trying to transport your cat or anyone else's for that matter is no easy task, it is smart to invest in a cat carrier. A cat carrier is great for a cat or a kitten. It will enable you to transport your cat from point A to point B with little to no damage or injury. Plus you will not have to worry about your cat plunking around in your car or attaching itself to you with its claws while you are driving.

A cat carrier is the best choice all around and will help your cat feel secure as well. Since there are a variety of different cat carriers to choose from, again it will depend largely on your preference and how much you want to spend. It's a good idea to make sure that the carrier is big enough to fit your cat and allow them to move around while in it.

are there any tips on taming semi feral kittens?

i just adopted 2 kittens from a family that had them running around their neighborhood 2 days ago. i am able to pet them, hold them and even lay in bed and nap with them, but they are trying to hide whenever im not holding them. they seem to enjoy being pet and fall asleep when im holding them and petting them at the same time. i'm not sure if maybe i am writing this too soon and they will come around in a couple of days? im not sure. i just would like some tips on helping the kittens trust me and be more open. thank you.

It takes time for them to learn to trust them. I don't see how old they are, but the younger they are when they start to interact with humans the better. It's okay for them to hide and have private time, yet enjoy lots of snuggling and petting and playing. Play with them a lot. Do not chase them because that will either create fear or it will make them think that the way to get you to play is to run away and you'll chase.

Do a lot of seduction with fishing pole type toys, and little balls etc. As you play, pick them up. Put food on your fingers, and pick them up as they snack. Play, love develop trust It takes more than a few days, it could take months. Be VERY sensitive to those things that encourage them to come to you and notice (and, as much as possible, avoid) things that scare them.

You cannot force trust, it takes time to develop. Don't be discouraged. You can do it.

Brand Integrity – Learn From Alessi & Avoid The Mistakes Of Mg

In terms of brand awareness, your money would probably be safe if you bet that more people were aware of MG than Alessi. So why then is the later a highly regarded and profitable organisation demonstrating European design flair and quality, while the former spent years as an object of ridicule until it finally went to the wall a few years ago?

It comes down to brand integrity and the fulfilment of the unwritten contract between customer and manufacturer that ‘you continue to produce the great designs and I will continue to buy them and promote them.'

MG were one of the originators of the great British sports car and produced affordable designs that offered a good helping of fun wrapped up in a seductive little body. Dating back to the 1920's this adventurous little company produced a series of designs that won the hearts of many a young character on both sides of the Atlantic with a sense of ‘joi de vive'.

The MG brand was still thought of affectionately by the motoring public in the main until the unwritten contract began to be terminally broken through the 1970's. By this time the ill-fated goliath of British Leyland had swallowed up MG and this gem of a brand became a victim to the industrial insanity that was inherent in the system.

The UK manufacturing sector of the 1970's was as effective as a one legged long jumper. The once great manufacturing base was poisoned with years of bad management, lack of investment, seditious unions and a general malaise from the majority of people involved. The British car industry was the jewel in the crown of this sector of ineptness and the MG brand was left hapless and helpless.

A succession of designs followed that had the capability to sting like a butterfly and float like a bee. These designs possessed all the charm of your Great Aunt Millicent's yapping terrier and were just as likely to leave an annoying puddle. No amount of good will can protect a company from such incompetence and customers began to reluctantly leave this cherished brand in a mass exodus.

Even the renowned German efficiency of a BMW takeover wasn't enough to save what had eventually evolved into MG Rover. BMW decided to cut their losses, jumping ship with the Mini brand and selling Land Rover and Jaguar to Ford. The remaining designs and brands at MG Rover were as appealing as a mangy old cat with asthma and a bladder problem - and the company lasted barely as long. A Chinese company now owns the name and it remains to be seen if they understand the need for brand integrity.

The Alessi and MG brands date back to a similar time period and with origins just as humble and innovative. However, Alessi have always remained true to their original ideals and honoured the unwritten contract with their loyal customers. The Alessi brand is renowned for creating designs that are visually appealing, functionally effective and manufactured to a high quality. They also frequently contain a certain ‘je nais c'est quai' that can cheer the soul, not in an ‘afluenza' manner, but because they have been created by people who wish to enrich the world with beauty and compassion.

The team behind Alessi are fiercely protective of their brand and do not shamelessly throw the Alessi logo on anything that doesn't move in order to increase profits. The same cannot be said for some of those prestigious car manufacturers out there, who are in progressively diluting their brands. Alessi are also very careful about choosing their retailer network and constantly monitor to make sure that their precious brand is not being exploited. This allows their loyal customers to continue to buy with confidence and promote the brand further.

There are many ways to damage brand integrity and the current infatuation with celebrity culture has created an intriguing twist to the theme.

Celebrity endorsement is nothing new and clearly an effective marketing tool. Joe Public can purchase the associated product with a desire to obtain a small piece of the celebrity's lifestyle and associated caché. A good example of this effect is the dramatic increase in sales for Police sunglasses following their association with David Beckham.

However, there has been a recent trend for high quality home ware manufacturers to produce designs that have supposedly been created by celebrities. This could be a range of high quality kitchenwares by a celebrity chef, or a range of designer bedding by a popular TV personality.

The problem is that these designs carry a premium price tag and have more often than not had no more contact from the celebrity than signing on the dotted line to receive their 10% royalty payment on every item.  To add the name of current celebrities to a product for a premium price tag, without adding any discernable improvement, seems at best shallow and at worst a rip-off.

A former ‘Changing Rooms' designer (and I use the term loosely) recently quipped that he would be happy to endorse anything, so long as he received a royalty payment.

People are not stupid and the extra costs involved for designs with no discernable advantage over the opposition are frequently left on the shelves, ready for the sales to begin and prices slashed.

It is clear that the only people to benefit from this situation are the celebrities that show a far greater ability for self-publicity than design talent.

Thankfully, Alessi, Menu, Louis Poulsen, Design E etc have not fallen into this trap and credit genuine new design talent for their design ranges. This approach fulfils the unwritten contact for the customer and nourishes the new generations of designers for all to enjoy.

The Perfect Dog Costumes For Halloween

Halloween is a holiday where people can dress up in outlandish costumes and parade around the neighborhood collecting candy. However, Halloween has not always been like it is today. It used to be a holiday where adults would escort their children from door to door with the children dressed up in cute, scary and funny costumes. Now not only do children dress up for the occasion, but adults do as well, and they even buy dog costumes to dress up their furry friends. Halloween is no longer limited to small children with big imaginations. It is open to everyone and everything that has the spirit of Halloween in them.

Halloween has many different origins depending on the country being studied. The modern day Halloween, however can be traced back to Celtic Festival known as Samhain. The festival was celebrated by the Gaelic culture and marked the end of the crop season by taking stock of supplies and slaughtering live stock for the winter. The Gaelic culture believed that at this time the line between dead and alive was dissolved, and that the dead posed a threat to living individuals. Festivities include a bond fire where individuals would dress up in costumes to mimic the evil spirits. The term Halloween came at a later time and is in reference to All Hallows' Day, also known as All Saints' Day.

While many of the original traditions associated with Halloween have come and passed, there are still traditions that hold true every year on October 31. One tradition is carving a pumpkin. No matter what the age, you are never too old to carve a scary or even silly face into a big orange pumpkin. Families make traditions out of picking the perfect pumpkin and intricately carving it to be displayed on the front porch. Carving a pumpkin has even become and art for some people. There are contests held all over to award the best pumpkin carver in town.

Another tradition that has been around since the very first Halloween is dressing up in a costume. While the meaning of wearing a costume has moved away from mimicking and scaring away evil spirits, there still is a tradition to wear costumes. There are still individuals who dress up as witches, ghosts and evil monsters, however there are just as many people dressed up as super heroes and princess. Now more and more stores are selling adult costumes so that they can join in the fun with their children and even hold Halloween parties of their own. People can even allow their pets to join in on the fun with all the dog costumes and pet outfits available.

Many people take pride in the outfits that they choose to dress up in for that one night out of the year and spend months planning. Now that dog costumes are available, individuals can coordinate their outfits to match their pet. Coordinated costumes include dressing up as Darth Vader and getting a Yoda outfit for your furry friend. For women, you can dress your dog up as Mickey Mouse and get a Minnie Mouse costume for yourself. You do not have to coordinate your own Halloween costume with your pet however, because there are numerous dog costumes that will bring laughs and smiles on their own. You can dress up your Dachshund as a hot dog with catch up and mustard or put a sombrero on your Chihuahua. Needless to say if you can imagine the costume, there is probably one out there somewhere.
